Koi CBD Review

The CBD Oil industry is in a state of rapid expansion. While this is great news from the perspective of a host of new products hitting the market, from lotions to edibles, it also means that the consumer has to be wary of low quality manufacturers.

I created this site to help CBD customers find the products they are looking for, from trusted suppliers. I offer honest reviews and am not afraid to let my readers know about scams or sketchy companies.

Luckily, that is not the case with Koi CBD.

About Koi CBD

Koi CBD offers a wide range of CBD products made with domestically grown and manufactured, full spectrum, CBD oil. Although they are a little bit pricey, their products are well developed and include a good attention to quality with readily available third party testing for consumers to look over before they buy.

Read on to find out more about their product lines, followed by an in-depth review of this company.

Koi CBD Oil

Koi CBD offers 250mg, 500mg and 1000mg tinctures in three flavors: Orange, Lemon Lime, and Spearmint which have a nice taste for dosing under the tongue. They also have a natural flavor which is perfect for adding to drinks or food without changing the flavor of your dish.

The oils are based on a full spectrum extraction for those looking for the “Entourage Effect.” The balance includes the active cannabinoids CBD, CBDV, and CBG. In addition, they use all-natural flavorings in their formulas.

Although they say their product has 0% THC, the lab reports do show traces of this psychoactive ingredient. They are probably well below the limit in terms of the product having any effect on concentration or causing a “high,” but it might be wise to exercise caution if your employer uses marijuana drug testing.

Pricing on the smaller bottles is above average for the industry standard, but the larger bottles come closer to the middle range of pricing.

Koi CBD Vape Juice & Cartridges

Vape Oil: If you are into vaping your CBD, then Koi CBD is definitely a great place to shop. They offer 100mg, 250mg, 500mg and 1000mg strengths in a VG/PG base. The vape liquids are made with CBD isolate (not full spectrum).

Their CBD vape juice comes in 6 signature flavors which are each unique flavor combos…mostly in the fruity vein. For example, the “Jade” flavor is Watermelon and Sour Green Apple. They have a combo pack if you want to give them all a try.

Vape Gear: If you happen to be new to vaping, you can pick up all the gear you need to get started right in the shop at Koi CBD. If you’re not sure if vaping your CBD is right for you, they have some very inexpensive disposable options ideal for giving it a try without spending a bunch of money out of the gate.

Koi CBD Lotion

The topical offered by this company is a nicely scented lavender hand and body lotion infused with 200mg of CBD in every bottle. In addition, there are several other natural ingredients in this formula including aloe leaf juice, neem seed oil (an all-natural insect repellant), and white willow bark.

It’s a little pricey, but it has a luxurious feel and smell.

Koi CBD for Pets

Soft Chews for Dogs: Each Koi dog treat in the bag contains 2.5mg of CBD. They use all natural, non-GMO ingredients in their formula. Their vet formulated recipe includes healthy ingredient such as flaxseed oil, sweet potatoes, chicken, and vitamin E.

Full Spectrum Spray for Pets: A full 500mg of full spectrum CBD oil is in each bottle with a convenient spray application for putting on food or spraying right in your pet’s mouth for a faster acting dose. This is a good way to administer CBD oil for those looking for the fastest way to help their pet with issues such as anxiety.

Koi CBD Gummies

A little pricier than some other gummies on the market, your getting some extra quality here. The gummies at Koi actually have distinct flavors like lime, tangerine, and pomegranate. Um….Yum! Also, they don’t just spray on a CBD concentrate, they actually use their full spectrum hemp oil right in the recipe.

Bonus: They have a sour CBD gummy pack too!

Overall rating: 4

Although they have a lot of positives, such as transparent lab reports and some background information on the staff at the U.S. headquarters, there are a few issues that prevent me from giving Koi CBD the highest rating. However, if you don’t mind paying a little extra for what might be mostly clever branding…the quality looks solid so you won’t be paying for junk.

Here is a look at why I gave them this rating in more detail:

PROs:

Third Party Testing on Finished Products

While it is common to see CBD oil manufacturers offer their third party testing on the isolates or base oils in their product, it is less common to see testing offered on the latest batch of a specific finished product.

Koi includes testing from SCLabs on all of their products. Moreover, the lab reports are displayed using a customer portal hosted on the lab’s site, an extra bulwark that prevents the manufacturer from forging results.

Quality Full Spectrum Offering

There really isn’t much in the way of regulating what “full spectrum” means. I have read hundreds of lab reports in putting together the research for this site, and I have found that most of the so-called “full spectrum” oils out there actually have mostly CBD, with a trace of one or two other cannabinoids, and often no terpene report even available.

However, for Koi CBD the opposite is true. Their full spectrum offering is their “Koi Naturals” line. As you can see from the lab reports provided for this product, their full spectrum is no joke, with a nice wide range of cannabinoids and terpenes present. Note: It does contain trace amounts of THC even though the product descriptions say 0% THC. This is typical for a full spectrum oil.

Veterans Assistance Program

Although Veterans have access to inexpensive health care through the Veterans Administration, the VA has restrictive policies that keep CBD oil from being prescribed or distributed by VA healthcare providers. This means that veterans who use CBD products as a health supplement may need financial help, and Koi CBD offers a 25% discount for veterans. Tip of the hat, Koi!

Domestically Sourced and Manufactured

The company claims that their produced is both sourced and manufactured in the USA. At various places they say it is pesticide free, but they have not come out and said that the product is sourced from organic hemp in the information sections of the website.

CONs:

Company Information

There is some information on the website about some of the staff at Koi, but it is pretty unsatisfying. The U.S. staff seems to be mostly marketing and business folks. There is a physical address in the U.S., but also one in the U.K.

Refining Process

Although there are extensive lab reports on the products offered, not all of them have pesticide or solvent residue analysis reports. Is the hemp organic? Are they using CO2 or solvent based extraction? Hard to say. I think this kind of transparency is a vital standard for the industry and I have lowered the overall rating as a result.

While the company has not gone out of their way to call their product organic, I should also note here that among the test reports that do include pesticide and solvent analysis…the results were very clean.

Pricing

The average price of CBD per mg at Koi CBD, while within reason, is on the high end of the spectrum in the industry. In some cases, I think that strong quality indicators such as evidence of seed to bottle control, small batch processing, or using crops selectively bred for full spectrum CBD extraction, can justify higher prices. However, there are not enough such indicators in this case, so the price seems a tad high.
