It might be tempting to dismiss CBD and skin care as just piggy backing on the known health benefits of CBD when consumed orally. However, you might be surprised to know that there are several researched backed ways in which CBD appears to have real potential benefits to your skin. 

In fact, your skin has an endocannabinoid system of its own, and substances found naturally in hemp may well be critical to maintaining healthy skin function in a variety of ways.

Anti-Inflammatory: The user of CBD applied topically to reduce inflammation has been well studied, although mostly in laboratory animals. However, the research seems promising that the transdermal (through the skin) anti-inflammatory properties that many users experience is not imagined.  

Interestingly, CBD may play a special role in regulating sebaceous glands making sure their secretions are normal and protecting them from inflammation. This property of cannabidiol is one reason that it is currently being studied as a potential therapy for acne.

Anti-Bacterial: Cannabidiol (CBD) is known to have anti-bacterial properties. Moisturizing: The endocannabinoid system in your skin is responsible for regulating several key functions, including the production of lipids that are used to keep the skin moisturized. Will Cbd Topicals Get Me High?

No. There are some products made with what is called a full-spectrum of the cannabinoids found in cannabis, including some trace amounts of THC, the main psychoactive chemical found in hemp. However, by law, CBD products have less than .3% of this chemical component, which is an insignificant amount to cause any high.  

Even if you are worried about a drug test at work, it is very unlikely that using CBD topicals will trigger a positive test result. However, if you are very concerned about that, be sure to look for a “CBD Isolate” base to use for any skin care products infused with CBD.  

How Much Cbd Should I Use?

The answer depends on both the product you choose (concentrations are different for different creams, salves and lotions) and also what effect you are going for. For example, a lotion designed for moisturizing a large area is designed to go on in a very thin layer and is likely less concentrated with a thinner base.

On the other hand, a salve designed for blemish control is likely more concentrated and takes only a pinhead sized amount applied to a small area for the product to be effective.

Your best bet is to follow the instructions that come with your product as a guide. Because cannabidiol is safe and non-narcotic, you don’t have to worry about using too much.

Do make sure to read the full ingredient to make sure you are not allergic to anything in the cream before using a large amount. In addition, pregnant and nursing women should not use CBD creams until more research demonstrates its safety under those conditions.

Can I Use Cbd Oil Right on My Skin?

In most cases, yes. Just check the ingredients first to make sure you do not have an allergy to any of the added ingredients including the carrier oil and/or flavorings used. However, there are a few downsides to going that route:  

First, the oil form of CBD (also known as tinctures) usually does not have additional ingredients to support the reason you are using it topically. For example, it may lack the soothing power of aloe, the cooling power of peppermint, or the added anti-bacterial properties of tea tree oil. So, CBD oil alone may not give you all of the benefits of CBD topicals formulated with a special purpose in mind.  

Second, it is more difficult to evenly spread the oil out of a tincture than it is a salve, cream or lotion. So, you might end up with an uneven coat, or end up using way more than you thought to cover the same area.

Well this is a great question. Right now, CBD products have a huge demand that is outpacing supply. In fact, some of the top companies actually do run out of stock from time to time as they try to keep pace with consumer demand for this natural supplement.
